He was the owner of the Queenaire Restaurant and Cortland Vending Service. He was a past president of the State Liquor Dealers Association and the Cortland County Hotel-Restaurant Association. He was a member of the Cortland Moose Lodge, BPOE 748; The Fraternal Order of Eagles; Homer Lodge 352, F&AM; Washington Chapter 29, RAM; the Lodge ol Perfection; the Princes of Jerusalem and the Scottish Rite Syracuse and Kalura Temple of Binghamton. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joan Grogan of Clearwater, FL and Mrs. Georgiane Reynolds of Cortland RD 4; three sisters, Mrs. Clarabelle Whipple, Mrs. Lillian Vert and Miss Ethel Wangerin, all of Utica, and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Gates was born in Du Bois, PA. She had been a resident of Cortland 20 years. Surviving is a sister, Mrs Mary Ellen Abrahamson ol Daytona Beach, FL. Alvin H. Gates Jr. was born in Cortland. He had completed his junior year at Homer High School and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Surviving are his mother, Mrs Hallie Gates of Cortland; two sisters, Mrs. Joan Grogan of Clearwater, FL, and Mrs. Georgiane Reynolds of Cortland RD 4. References
