Syracuse Herald Journal, 5 July 1969: OFFICIALS PROBE TWO PLANE CRASHES The dead were identified as: Alvin Gates, Sr., 52, of 200 Homer AV, Cortland, owner of the Queenaire Lounge in Cortland; his wife Mrs. Kay Gates, 45, and Alvin Gates Jr, their son, who had recently obtained his pilot's license.

Gates Jr. was born in Cortland. He had completed his junior year at Homer High School and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Surviving are his mother, Mrs Hallie Gates of Cortland; two sisters, Mrs. Joan Grogan of Clearwater, FL, and Mrs. Georgiane Reynolds of Cortland RD 4.
