Utica Herald-Dispatch, 16 Sep 1910: DIED FROM INJURIES... Trenton, Sept. 16--William Gates of the town of Deerfield died at his home yesterday. Monday afternoon Mr. Gates, in getting off a load of oats, fell on a pitchfork handle and received injuries which resulted in his death. Mr. Gates was in his 27th year. He was born on the high sea and most of his life was spent in the town of Trenton. He moved to Deerfield last spring on the Hewitt farm on the Trenton Road. He leaves his wife and two children. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Charles Hoffman of South Trenton; four sisters... and three brothers... Mr. Gates was an industrious man of many friends. The funeral will be held from his residence Sunday at 3 p.m.
