Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Alexander Stuart acquired land on the "Calfpasture" "on head of Grassey Lick", which was purchased by his wife Jane prior to her marriage to Alexander Stuart and after the death of her first husband, David Graham.

Disposition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 437.--18th November, 1778. Alexander Stewart and Jean, late Jean Graham, to Alexander McGinney, in Calfpasture on head of Grassey Lick, purchased by Jane in her widowhood, of Joseph Vahub, 17th March, 1777. (Note: this land was purchased by Jean (Walkup) Graham from her father, Joseph Walkup. Walkup was sometimes spelled "Vahub" or "Vachub" in some early records).
