_DCAUSE: Fall resulting in a stroke

Agnes always insisted on celebrating her birthday on July 2 1, even though her birth certificate stated that her date O of birth was 20 July 1913. She always insisted that some bur Aura must have made a mistake...SHE knew when she was bo rn..... Agnes was known only as Peg to the Hilson family. One time she absentmindedly signed her name as Agnes Hilson on a c Card to Ernie's family. It took YEARS for the recipient to figure out who had sent the card... It wasn't until the Recie pient attended Agnes's funeral when they saw her given name I on the funeral card that they realized that it was from " Peg"and told Mom the story.... She met Ernie because he boarded with "Father" Cross who li ved across street from the place where she boarded..at the e Seehaver's. Annie Seehaver was her first cousin once remo ved on the Jones side of the family. One of the hardest things that Agnes ever did was to retur n to the workforce after Ernie died in 1970. She had not wo rked outside the home since she married in 1933. For a short time she worked in the office at Spinrite Yarn s and Dyers and then took a position as a Sales clerk fo r Russell Studios in Listowel. She retired at age 65. Grandma was a fixture at our place. After Grandpa died, an y Hilson gettogethers sort of took place in three houses... .we would unwrap presents at Grandma's, stop at Alice Stemm lers for a drink, collect Alice, Bruce, Judy and Barrett an d then go over to our place for meals.Grandma was usually a t our house once or twice a week for dinner until she move d into the Maitland Terrace. Grandma suffered from osteoporosis and, for the last few ye ars of her life, lived in terror of falling and severely hu rting herself. When she moved into Caressant Care on a trial basis, she fe ll, broke her hip and suffered a severe stroke. She die d a week or so later.
