Marion had been blind or nearly so for years. Her granddaughters recall her sitting at the table to wash dishes. It was never clear why her sight was so poor although some granddaughters remember hearing about her having an illness that left her with poor vision. It is more likely that she suffered from Fuch's deteriorating cornea, a condition that can cause blindness if left untreated. The exact cause of Fuch's dystrophy is unknown. This condition is an inherited one that shows up in her daughter and then later in that daughter's daughter
