No one can remember why Gordon was nicknamed Pete but it appears that he got the name at an early age...likely in public school. When Alice died, I offered my services to Karen to help go through some of the photographs. We picked a day and, when looking through pictures, noticed that each had already been neatly identified.Karen identified her father's handwriting. That Uncle Pete had gone through and identified all of the old pictures is a trait that shows classic Shearer organization skills. That he had done so before his unfortunately quick demise was surprising.Karen remembered that shortly after they sold the farm and moved into town, Uncle Pete had a lot of time on his hands. It was really nice to know that he had taken the time to do what almost noone else gets around to doing. There were pictures there that noone remembered ever seeing and even Mom could not identify some of the guilty parties. It was just so marvelous to see all those names written on the back.... I really had to laugh that day...on one side of a piece of paper was a wedding invitation for my maternal great grandparents. When I flipped over the page, the reverse of it had an invitation to my great great grand aunts wedding...on my father's side. Very few people can research both their mother's and father's family trees just by flipping over a page.Does anyone wonder why I am researching the Shearers?
