In December 2003, Alice was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. For the last few months of her life, she lived at Caressant Care nursing home in Listowel.Despite a hearing loss caused by the tumour, she was in relatively good spirits and health until the end. SHEARER, Alice Ileen - At Listowel Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 17, 2004, Mrs. Alice (Baker) Shearer of Listowel, in her 80th year. Beloved wife of the late Gordon Shearer. Dear mother of Ruth Anne Shearer of Brunner, Doug and Heather Shearer of Pembroke, and Karen Shearer of London. Grandmother of Karis and Ian Shearer. Also survived by her sister-in-law, Myrtle Lennex(sic) of Listowel. Predeceased by her parents Robert and Emma (Johnston) Baker; her brother, Joseph Baker, and her sister, Margaret Adams. Visitation will be held at the Robert Trench Funeral Home, Listowel today, (Wednesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 19 at 11 a.m. Rev. Ralph Dwarika officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel, Ont. Memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or Calvary United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.3
