Our Community
Teamwork
- Who writes WeRelate? NEW - Anyone with internet access!
- Talk pages EXISTING - how we communicate in WeRelate
- needs to briefly describe the purpose and where to find the link;
- needs to distinguish between editing the entire talk page or a single topic;
- includes Help:FAQ/Talk pages
- Using the Watercooler EXISTING - the Talk page for broad topics
- includes Help:FAQ/Watercooler; followed by link to WeRelate talk:Watercooler
- Connecting with others EXISTING - finding and corresponding with research colleagues
- includes email this page (as well as email this user)
- needs some updating
- C: COMPLETE
-
Help:Projects NEW - collaborate with others on a specific area of interest
- C: I remember a page that talked about working together on projects and listed some examples, but I cannot locate it now. Portal:Community has some, but much of that page, like so many others is outdated. I could go either way on this page here. It could be shelved for later.
- D: Agreed
- Help:Quick directory NEW
- C: ?shelf for later?
- D: I'm OK with shelving this for later. I'm not sure what you had in mind for this, but it can wait.
Support
- We are all volunteers and former newcomers to this site, so we understand that WeRelate is different and can be confusing at times. We want your experience working here to be a pleasant and successful one. Once you become a free member, please don't hesitate to ask questions or request a Mentor.
Administration
- Administration FAQ NEW
- REPLACES WeRelate:About administrators EXISTING
- needs some updates
- List of administrators EXISTING
- C: In Oct, I updated this list to show those currently with admin rights, but it should not be considered to be a representation of active admins. Many are actually inactive entirely or inactive in community administration work. This needs to be addressed further in the OC.
- Help:Administrators' guide EXISTING
- C: Is this page still valid/effective as is? Seems that much of this should go on maintenance committee pages.
- D: Agreed that this could be split into separate guides for each committee. I have no idea how out-of-date the guide is - I thought to leave it for later.
- C: Do we know how much regular "patrolling" is still taking place?
- D: I'm guessing little right now, other than maybe place pages. I don't know how helpful the guidelines are - if they are a bit vague, rejuvenating them might help us to find admins willing to take this on again. But I would not make it the highest priority in rewriting Help.
- WeRelate:About EXISTING
- C: caution - I have proposed changes/replacement to this elsewhere, need to reconcile
- C: how did you see this as pertaining to Administration? If it was to explain our administrative history, then perhaps we could break out just that relevant content.
- D: I didn't have it elsewhere. Since you found a place for it in the first section, we can remove it from here, or, as you suggest, just keep the relevant history of admin here.
- to include WeRelate:Contact us EXISTING
- C: needs updating
Volunteering
- Portal:Volunteer opportunities NEW
- REPLACES Portal:Maintenance and WeRelate:Volunteers
- D: needs refreshing to encourage volunteerism
- C: rather than replacing, can we update Portal:Maintenance to accomplish above
- D: That's more-or-less what I suggested - except that I think we might want to rename the portal to emphasize that it is volunteers (not some maintenance staff) that does the work. Or maybe (at some point) we want to have separate portals for tasks that require admin status and volunteer tasks that anyone can do (such as duplicate pages and Data Quality improvement).
- Help:Spread the word EXISTING
Improving WeRelate
- We gladly accept ideas for improvement, but before you submit a suggestion, please ask us about features you cannot find or figure out how to use to see if a solution already exists.
- Nominating a page to be featured NEW
- Donating to our non-profit EXISTING
- incorporates information from and REPLACES WeRelate:About donations
- Removing ads NEW
- includes how to and explains that they are only removed for you when signed in, not for other visitors
- D: I might consider placing this elsewhere (since it only improves a person's individual experience of WeRelate) - but I can't think where at the moment. We can decide later once more of the structure is developed.
