Working with GEDCOMs

Before you start

Help:Adding new vs updating existing NEW (repeat) – unless the same information is incorporated in other GEDCOM help pages, in which case a common include page might be useful

Help:Preparing your data REPLACES Help:Before you import your GEDCOM and the FAQ on preparing data for GEDCOM upload, needs refreshing (e.g., do NOT privatize the GEDCOM because it defeats the check for living persons by removing dates, but DO exclude living people if your program supports that); includes and links to appropriate convention pages (e.g., dates, names)

Adding a GEDCOM

Uploading a GEDCOM EXISTING (and rewrite already drafted), continues to link to Help:GEDCOM/application-specific files

Reviewing your GEDCOM EXISTING, continues to link to Help:GEDCOM Warnings, incorporates if still relevant and replaces Help:Review GEDCOM/Not Matchable; includes and links to appropriate convention pages (e.g., dates, names)

Note that the gedcom review code references Help:Review GEDCOM/Not Matchable, although it doesn't appear to actually use it, and works fine in the Sandbox without the file (not sure if any error messages are generated). The text in the Help file doesn't exactly match the text in the 2 warning messages issued by the code. If we delete Help:Review GEDCOM/Not Matchable, we should get the reference removed from the code - might require Dallan to do this.--DataAnalyst 14:02, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
