Information Needs

It would be helpful to know the exact source of the information on Jane Woods (Source 61) as cited in Tennessee, United States. Reconstructed 1810 Census of Tennessee. The annotation describes Jane as of Washington County. Presumably that's Tennessee, and she was living there in 1810. yet daughter Margaret is said to have been born in 1801 in Blount County TN. Something inconsistent here that's keeping this from tracking properly. More information about source 61 would be helpful.

From Michael Marion Woods Age Book:

Jane Woods married to Andrew Cowan the 14th day of February 1797 about one o'clock by Mr. Doake on a Tusday, Cowan 25 years old the 11th let month (Jan) and started for Ninemile the 28th February 1797. It came on a hevy days snow.

The reference to "Ninemile" is probably to Nine Mile Creek in Blount County. Other members of the Woods extended family settled there about this time. Among them were Person:Robert Cowan (11) and Person:John Cowan (12). Robert (11) was the son of Robert (10) of Jefferson County TN John (12) was the son of Samuel Cowan=Ann Walker, and also settled in Blount, at least temporarily. YDNA analysis suggests that Robert and John were members of the Seven Cowan Brothers group, with whom there are numerous connections to the Michael Woods family.

Michael Marion Woods, apparently died intestate in 1808. At his death he was possessed of substantial property, which was divided among his nine children though court arbitration. Presumably the record of that aribrarion would have identified the children. "Source #61) referenced above is probably that record. At the time of Michael's death, ANdrw Cowan and wife Jane Woods, would have been in Blount County, though its possible that they had moved on to Franklin County TN, where many of the Cowans in this family line settled after 1800. However, daughter Margaret married in Blount County in 1821, implying that her parents remained in that area.

Of interest is exactly who Andrew Cowan was. He's clearly Seven Brothers, but the exact relationship to other members of the family is unknown.
