WeRelate:Source review

From WeRelate

A 2009 goal of WeRelate is to develop a Research Assistant that would be available from any Person page. You could click on the Research Assistant, and the system would return a list of sources that you should review in order to find the information you are missing for the selected person. In order to create this research assistant, we need a clean, comprehensive list online and off-line genealogical sources.

For off-line sources, we will be running an automated program to clean up the nearly 1,000,000 items from the FHLC and later we'll create Source pages for the material found in major genealogy libraries. However, we need to review the online sources by hand. We currently have Source pages for 120,000 online sources. Most of these point to online family trees and should be deleted. But many point to transcriptions of original records or other items of broad interest.

We need your help to clean up the online Source pages. If you would like to help clean them up, please sign your name next to one of the lines below. Each line leads to a page that contains links to 1000 Source wiki pages along with the URL's that the Source pages refer to.

When you have finished reviewing all of the sources on the page, write "completed" next to your signature below.

As you know, WeRelate is a nonprofit organization. We need to record public support to keep our tax deductible status, and time is money. So, please record the time you spend at the bottom of the Administrator log page.

Thanks for helping us with this project!!!!--Dallan 12:24, 1 August 2008 (EDT)

If you come across a website like http://www.jewishgen.org that contains a number of online databases, rename the Source page to a Repository page, and add the newly-created Repository page here. You or someone else can then create new Source pages for the databases contained in the repository later.
