Next step: Review your GEDCOM [11 April 2011]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded givens ancestry.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Christian Cramer [18 April 2011]

Hi! I'm a volunteer administrator here on WeRelate. I also have an interest in Ohio cemeteries, so whenever I see a new one created, I take a look at it. I saw on your page for Christian Cramer that you have him listed as buried in Cramer Cemetery. I think it's actually Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. There is a photo of his tombstone on FindAGrave.com (though the person transcribed the date of death incorrectly). Also, I've looked in the Ohio Genealogical Society's database of Ohio cemetery locations and they don't list a "Cramer Cemetery" in Seneca County. Would you mind changing that information on Christian's page and on Johannes' page (if Johannes is buried in the same cemetery)? You can delete the Cramer Cemetery page (or I can do that, if you prefer). Please let me know if you have any questions at all. Thanks! -- Amy (Ajcrow) 08:52, 18 April 2011 (EDT)

This is interesting - I had not ever looked for Christian at findagrave.com even though I use it extensively. In reading the Seneca Co. USGenWeb cemetery listing on this cemetery it notes a couple of graves moved there from abandoned cemeteries. I suspect this may have been what happened to Christian. My source was a family report created back in 1943. The author may not have been aware of any reburial. I believe the report is factually correct but the bodies obviously reside in Pleasant Ridge today. Thanks for noting this. btw - I tried but find absolutely no way to delete the page on the Cramer cemetery. So could you do that and for my future benefit enlighten me on how to delete a page. Thanks.--regivens 11:15, 18 April 2011 (EDT)

If you are the only person watching a page, you can delete it yourself. Click on "More" on the lefthand side of the page, and select "Delete" from the dropdown. Make sure you put in a reason for deleting the page. If there are other people watching a page that you think should be deleted, you can mark it with the "Speedy Delete" template. (Here's a page describing how to use Speedy Delete.) -- Amy (Ajcrow) 13:33, 18 April 2011 (EDT)

Alexander Kennedy & Jane McGiven [13 July 2014]

The changes I made were not meant to reflect anything to do with the couple in question--I was merely altering "Edinburgh, , Midlothian, Scotland" to "Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland". I did not investigate the family any further than that. I recall noticing the references to "Dull, Perth, Scotland" and knew that they ought to be changed to "Dull, Perthshire, Scotland", but thought that at that pariticular moment I should continue to correct the myriad of "Edinburgh, , Midlothian, Scotland" and other similar entries for the capital.

Robertson Info [25 November 2022]

Hello Robert, thanks for the info on the Robertson family, it is appreciated. I concur with your findings and have added the will of John Robertson and also some other records that also support this. I haven't had a chance to look at the info on Alexander Matheson yet, I'll try to get to it in the next day or so... Looks like you have some great Augusta County roots, too.

Best regards,

Jim:)--Delijim 14:00, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello again Robert, thanks for the info on your Givens family. You are certainly correct about it being a mess, I've tried to sort things out and put them in the correct places. it certainly does not help when some published sources have incorrect info, once it's in print, it's hard to correct unless you display the information to refute the mistakes clearly for others to follow.. And, as you noted, DNA info is not 100% trustworthy in proving ancestry.

Best regards,

Jim :)

More on William Givens [28 November 2022]

So your info on William Givens, son of John and Margaret [Sittlington] Givens conflicts with Cleek in Early Western Augusta Pioneers:

Image:William_Givens_in_Early_Western_Augusta_Pioneers_pg._357.jpg

This does not surprise me if it is wrong, as Cleek also got John Givens and Margaret Sittlington's son James incorrect. too.... Your thoughts? thanks,

Jim--Delijim 19:53, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

FYI - I fixed William Givens as the son of John Givens and Margaret Sittlington, I concur with your info and analysis. It's sad that Cleek jumped to conclusions in Early Western Augusta Pioneers regarding both the William Givens and James Givens that he mis-identified as their sons. Best regards,

Jim:)

Hi Bob, got your message and I concur with everything you stated, glad to assist in getting the relationships corrected. Happy Monday and have a great week,

Jim:)
