WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors. Now that you have uploaded werelate.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it. Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier. Click here to review your GEDCOM Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.
[add comment] [edit] Find a Grave images [6 October 2011]Hello, I am a volunteer administrator here on WeRelate. I noticed that you have added photos from Find A Grave. Photos from Find A Grave are not public domain. Unless there is clear indication on the image page that you either took the photograph or have permission from the copyright owner to use it on WeRelate (including agreeing to WeRelate's licensing), it will need to be deleted. Please see our policy here. The best way to include those types of images is to link to the memorial page. For example, on the page for Adam Baxter, you could enter this in the text area: Photo of Adam's gravestone on [http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=42521391 FindAGrave.com]. The link would look like this: Photo of Adam's gravestone on FindAGrave.com Images can be deleted by clicking on More>delete from the image page. Please let me know if you have any questions. --Jennifer (JBS66) 10:10, 6 October 2011 (EDT) [add comment] [edit] werelate.ged Imported Successfully [6 October 2011]The pages from your GEDCOM have been generated successfully. [add comment] [edit] Government Record Images and Copyright [10 October 2011]That's an interesting question, and we have dealt with it before. I treat scans I've made of birth and death certificates as copyright by the state that issued them, and then indicate it still as a low resolution scan of a historical document. For an example, see my Grandfather's page, where I have a scan of his death certificate attached. If someone were to send me a scan of such a document - provided that they did not assert a copyright - I would feel comfortable treating it the same way. Arguably, scans of government/historical documents that are provided by someone else may themselves be copyrighted - even if the material being scanned is not. "ancestry.com" is fortunately a special category of such materials, since they offer a limited use license for all images, so long as commercial re-use is not being made. Census and other records from there can be used and labelled with that copyright type. The marriage record for John Battis and Lydia Burnham is attached on this page with such a copyright. Finally - if you're really perplexed - you almost always have two options - A "fair use" since it's a unique document and you're not making commercial re-use OR label the document with the special type "help me figure out what copyright this is" - which is watched periodically by administrators and we'll work with you. Hope this helps... --jrm03063 12:57, 10 October 2011 (EDT) [add comment] [edit] GEDCOM Export Ready [26 October 2011]The GEDCOM for tree Anne Moleyns is ready to download. Click here.
