On the map Gloucester District is numbered 1.
Gloucester is a city, district and county town of Gloucestershire in the southwest of England. Gloucester lies on the River Severn close to the Welsh border. It is approximately 32 miles (51 km) north-east of Bristol, and 45 miles (72 km) south-southwest of Birmingham. The city is located on the eastern bank of the River Severn, sheltered by the Cotswolds to the east, while the Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills rise to the west and north, respectively. Gloucester is a port, linked via the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal which runs from Gloucester's docks to the Severn Estuary, allowing larger ships to reach the docks than would be possible on the tidal reaches of the river itself, which go well north of the city to Haw Bridge. end of Wikipedia contribution Gloucester is considered to be one of the six "non-metropolitan districts" of Gloucestershire. This means that it has a local council responsible for some government functions, but other functions are carried out at the county level. (See Wikipedia). The non-metropolitan districts were established in 1974. The city of Gloucester absorbed a number of former civil parishes in its environs in the century leading up to 1974 and, in 2011, the city itself had a population of approximately 121,900. The area covered by Gloucester District includes a larger built-up area whose population, as counted by the 2011 census, was 149,280. With the exception of Coney Hill, Linden and St Pauls, there are descriptions for all of them within Wikipedia.
