Barrington was created in 1935 as the result of a merger of three parishes: Great Barrington, Little Barrington, and a small part of Eastleach Turville.

The present parish of Barrington has been in the Cotswold District of Gloucestershire, England since 1974. According to the 2001 UK census it had a population of 209. To the east the parish borders Oxfordshire.
