On the 1850 census we find Peter, 45, a farmer, b. Germany. They have $600 in Real Estate. Susanna is 34, born in Ohio, and they have with them seven children.[p 853 fam #191/196] On the 1860 census, still in Marion Twp. with a Logan Post Office, Hocking Co., Oh. , Peter is now 55 and still farming. Susannah is 42, and there are still seven children, the older ones have left and she has born more. [p 157 fam #1027/1015] By 1870, Peter at 65 is still farming in Marion. "Susan" is 52 and there are still seven children home.[p 506 fam #212/215] In 1880, 75 year old Peter is still farming. Susanna, now 63, has a notation by her name "Rheumatitis." In the home are also Barbara, 19; and Daniel, 17. [ED 63 fam #129/131] In Records from the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, Marion Twp., Hocking Co., Oh., (p. 38) we find her death as 27 Oct 1884. There are several errors in the record, but we see she had suffered from rheumatism, and was survived by husband & 12 children. It states she was born in Rushcreek Twp., Fairfield Co., 10 Oct 1818, baptized 24 Jan 1826. It also reports that she was survived by 6 aunts and 2 uncles! These MUST be from the Comer side of the family, as we have yet to find any other Rittgers Elders. In the same records we find that Peter, b. 11 Oct 1805, Steinbach, Deutchland, married 24 Jan 1836, to Susanna "Ritche". They had 14 children - 3 sons and 11 daughters. He died 27 Aug 1888, age 82 yrs., 10 mo., 18 days. Peter may have remarried, as we see on p. 39, he is survived by an unnamed wife and 2 children. We question the "wife and children" statement, and there is no entry in the Hocking Co. Marriages for a Peter Daubenmire between 1884 & 1888, and the entry has many other errors.
