We find that he was born Aug 1859[1900 census] in Marion Twp , Hocking Co., Oh., but we find he was baptised 15 Aug 1858 in St. Jacobus Lutheran Church records. He is on the 1860 census, age 2, with parents there, so most probably 1858 is correct.[p 157 fam #1027/1015] and on the 1870 census, age 12, with parents there.[p 156 fam #212/215] She was born 6 Mar 1863, Hocking Co., Oh.[Berens] In 1900, Jacob, 40, a farmer, and wife Sophia, 38, b. Mar 1862, in Ohio , live in Marion Twp., Hocking Co., Oh. She declares they have been married 18 years; she has born six children, all alive at this time.[ED 32, p 117A, fam #210/210] On 1910 census, Marion Twp., age 51 and a farmer. He owns his farm free and clear. With him is wife Sophia, age 47, b. Oh., but parents born in Germany. She declares they have been married 28 years, she has born 8 children, all alive. There are five with them on this census.[ED 88, p 7A, fa m # 120/121] In 1920 Jacob, 61, owns his own farm on Schwartz Mill and Sugar Grove Rd., Marion Twp. Wife Sophia, 57, is caring for the three children still in the home.[ED 45, p. 10A, f am # 185/186] On the 1920 census, they continue in Marion Twp. Jacob, now 61, continues farming. Sophia, 57,declares she can read and write, but Jacob cannot. they still have three children in the home.[ED 45, p. 910A, fam 185/186]
