Will of Samuel Cowden

From "Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Abstracts of Early Wills, 1763-1790", by Brent H. Holcomb, pg. 17:

Will of Samuel Cowden, being very sick.. to my brother Walter Cowden by horse & saddle & wearing apparel & what grain I have at Robert Harris & what yarn properly belongs to me at my brother Robert Cowdens or Capt. Samuel Pickens & also the Buckskins at William Wileys; to my sons Walter & John Cowden begot on the body of Martha Wilson all & every part of my Estate only what is excepted to be between them equally divided; my brothers Walter Cowden & James Harris of Reedy Creek, exrs. 28 March 1782. (signed) Samuel Cowden (seal). Wit: John Harris, Robert Harris, jurat, Elizabeth Harris. Will Book A, p. 168. C.R. 065.801.14. (Note: this will proves the identity of Samuel Cowden's wife as Martha Harris. She was married first to Samuel Wilson of Staunton, who died in 1760 and named his wife "Martha" in his will, then she married Samuel Cowden in 1762 (marriage Bond in Augusta County in 1762). She is most likely the sister of the "James Harris of Reedy (Reed's) Creek", who is named as "my brother" in Samuel Cowden's will).
