Robert Stapleton married his wife Anna Marie Wygant in 1715 in Highland, New York. They had banns done and then were married. He was of York Island and Anna Marie was of Hoogland. Their marriage was recorded in the records of the Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. Justus Falckner. The couple were sponsors to a child of Hannes and Mary Fischer in 1716. The first three of their children's baptismal records are recorded there, as well. Tobias' baptism was dated 1717.

The family left New York with some other family members and went to Oley, Berks County, Pennsylvania where he obtained some land from the Penn brothers. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) He built his family home in brick on one of these pieces of land. At least two of their children were born there. Their baptisms were done and recorded by the Rev. Jonhann Casper Stoever.

Anna Marie died before 1747 when Robert wrote a provisional will (1, 2) leaving his house and land to two of their sons, William and John, if they took care of him in his old age and also by giving him one third of all the winter grain . They were to, within a year after he died, distribute legacies to all their siblings, which he recorded. They were Tobias, Elizabeth, Catherine, Hanna, Sarah, Margret, and Charles. This will is filed in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Robert married a second time to a widow, Catharina Richardtin in 1748. Their marriage was recorded in the Records of Augustus Lutheran Church in Trappe, Pennsylvania. After they married, he left Pennsylvania and went to Frederick County, Virginia with his new wife and some of his younger children. His sons Tobias, John, and William stayed behind in Pennsylvania. This was in 1748-1749 when he bought land on the South Fork of Haldman's Creek. Robert and his wife Catherine then deeded the land to his son Charles on 16 March 1750 when he was nineteen. He didn't receive the title until 1763.

Robert wrote another will (1, 2) in Virginia in October 1754 leaving the bulk to his wife for the duration of her life and then to be divided equally amongst his children. He died shortly after writing it as his sons in Pennsylvania started probate proceedings in Berks County during the month of January 1755. In 1782, after Catharina died, Tobias and his other children divided the land he had left her for her lifetime. The transaction was recorded in the Shenandoah County Virginia Deed Records.
