From Robert Tevis (Tivis), His Parents, His Siblings, and His Progeny by Nancy Pearrer Lesure

The age of Robert Tevis' second son Nathaniel is also known from a land commission deposition: 45 in the spring of 1785. In August 1761, not long after he turned 21, he bought land in Baltimore County, a 100-acre tract called Long Lookt For, for 18 pounds, and in October 1762, by then a planter, he received from his father 111 acres of Tevis' Chance. The following year he patented Tivis's Venture, a resurvey on Long Looked For with vacant land added. Other land transactions included the sale of part of Tivis's Venture in 1769; a 1770 survey and 1773 patent on Peter's Leavings; a 1774 survey and 1775 patent on That or None; a 1783 resurvey on his part of Tevis's Chance renamed Tevis Luck, patent not issued until 1792; and the sale of Peter's Leavings in 1787. In 1779, when he was about 40 years old, he was listed as a non-juror to the Oath of Fidelity.

Before February 1764 he married Ann Bennett, daughter of Thomas and Mary. Ann Tevis released her dower right in the 1769 land sale, but the 1787 sale record has no such release. A crudely lettered tombstone in the Bennett family cemetery bears her death date: 18 March 1786.

Nathaniel remarried 23 Oct 1787 Kesiah Simpson, and it was she who relinquished dower right in June 1792 when he sold his Baltimore County property and headed for Kentucky. He bought land in Madison County, Ky., in December 1792. There he wrote his will on 29 Aug 1798, naming four sons, including a Robert, and two daughters, including a Peggy, all children of his first marriage. The will was proved 2 Oct 1798.
