Early Land Acquisition in Virginia

Land Warrants

To Mr. George Hume. Whereas Mungo Price of Augusta hath informed us there are about Four Hundred Acres of Waste & ungranted Land in of Sd. County. Whereon he now lives n the Branch of Hawks Bill.
And desiring a Warrant to Survey of lands in order to Obtain a Deed being ready to pay the Composition & Office Charges. These are therefore to Empower you & sd. George Hume to Survey of sd. waste land for said.
Provided if be of first Warrant hath ___ for of same. And you are to make a true, just & accurate, survey thereof describing of Courses & distances & poles also if Buttings & Boundings of if Severall persons lands adjoining. And where you cannot joun on any know lines You are to make a breath of the Tract to ear at least if proportion of one third part of length as he _- of Virge? - directs you are also to Incent of names of ye pilos? & Chain Carriers made use of & employed. A Plan of which sd. Survey with he Warrant You are to give in to if Offite? any time before he twenty fifth of March next ensuing. Given under my hand & seal of Proportions Office this 20th Day of November & in ye twenty third year of his Magistie King George of Seconds Reign. [Signed] G.W. Fairfax.
10br ye 5th 1749. By Virtue of a Warrant from the Proprietors Office dated ye 20th day of 9ber 1749 Surveyed for Mungo Price three hundred acres of Land lying in Augusta County & on ye branches of Hawksbill Beginning at two small white oaks & one chesnut Oak & runs the North West two hundred pole to B, two White Oaks & one Red Oak, then South West two hundred & forty pole to C, one Pine, then South East one hundred pole to D, one White Oak, the Nirth East two hundred & forty pole to the beginning.
