Margaret Ledgerwood did not marry nor move to California, IMHO. Margaret made her will on 9-27-1834, in Montgomery County, VIRGINIA. For whatever reason her will was held and not probated until 1891 in Roanoke County, VIRGINIA (that part of Mongtomgery Co., where the Ledgerwood's resided becoming Roanoke Co. when it was formed).

Margaret is one of the 3 sisters who remained on the original Ledgerwood land - the other 2 sisters, being Mary and Rebecca. In both Rebecca's & Margaret's wills they provide for each other including Mary and call each other SISTERS.

According to census records it would appear that Mary is the oldest and in the 1820 census was named HOH. Mary being born between 1760-1770 and Rebecca & Margaret being born between 1770-1780. Margaret would have been 54-64 years old when she made her will in 1834. I find it highly doubtful that she would have married and moved to California at that late age - and to do so leaving behind her will. Cindy Driscoll - 7-22-2010

Is this the William Ledgerwood, that had sons, John b 1739 in Scotland, William, Jr.died 1794, Fayette Co., Virginia married Rebecca Moody., and James.

John married unknown and fathered 12 children, Samuel b Virginia died Knox Co., TN married Sarah Pearce march 5, 1808 Green Co., Tn. Joseph, John, William, George, James, David, Bacob, Nathaniel, Mary, Rebecca and Margaret b. March 26, 1774 Virginia and died Jan. 21, 1853 in California, MO. Margaret married Michael Berger/Burger.
