Halleck's 120,000 Federal troops besieged Memphis May 30 1862, Gen. Johnston led a skillful retreat after the Battle of Shiloh. On Sept. 19th the Confederates tried to retake Corinth, Mississippi. John Carr was apparently killed during this period."
