[edit] About John Emmet SwingerJohn Emmett Swinger was born 9 November 1892 in Kansas, the son of Charles Lewis Swinger (1868-1904) and his wife Alice Price Taylor (1866-1932). John married on 2 September 1910 in Stafford County, Kansas to Carrie Alvira Black (1892-1962), the daughter of Horace Putnam Black (1865-1953) and his wife Lula Estella (1874-1949). In the 1930 U.S. Census in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, John E. Swinger, age 37 was listed as working as a Miller in a Flour Mill. He owned his home, which was valued at $3,000. Living with him was his wife Carrie A. (age 37) and children: Adrian I. Swinger (age 18), Verna D. Swinger (age 15) and Jack E. Swinger (age 11). In the 1940 U.S. Census in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, John E. Swinger, age 47, was still working as a Miller in a Flour Mill. He reported that he had worked 44 hours in the previous week and his income was $2,100 in the year prior to the census being taken on April 16, 1840. Living with him was his wife Carrie A. (age 47) and son Jack Ebel (age 21), who had attended school during the year. John and Carrie were married for over 60 years before John passed away on 23 May 1971 in Stafford County, Kansas.
