He died 5 Nov 1838 and buried in the Keller Cemetery, two miles northeast of Georgetown, Floyd County.

He married 27 Jan 1783 to Margaret Weller who died about 1795.

Children: Barbara born 28 May 1787 and died 31 Jan 1846 married 20 May 1807 to Jacob Brookhart; Martha born 20 May 1789 died 6 Dec 1861 married 1806 Frederick Ramey; Daniel born 17 Mar 1791 and died 3 Dec 1836 married first 20 Apr 1817 Sally Risinger 1798-1822 married second 8 May 1823 Zerviah Starr. Their gravestones are in a small cemetery on this land, about four miles southwest of Crockett in Houston Co., Texas...His stone reads: Sacred to the Memory of John C. Hagan Born in Franklin Va. Oct. 4, 1798 Died Aug. 18, 1864. His will mentions four daughters:"
