Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

James Dryden appears to have acquired land prior to the following transaction in Augusta County. (Note: some estimates of James Dryden's birthdate show "abt. 1753", but if this James Dryden is the same as the one in the transaction listed below, he would have been born prior to 1745 in order to acquire land).

  • Page 116.--17th August 1765. Samuel Porter, of Dromore township. County of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, schoolmaster, by John Mitchel, of Augusta County, to James Dryden, £26, 300 acres below the Fork of Buffalo Creek. Teste: David Dryden, Arthur McClure. Delivered: David Dryden, son of James, 1st April, 1791.
