    Rev. Horace M. Lewis, Sr.
    The funeral for the Rev. Horace
    Monre Lewis Sr., who died Thursday,
    July 2, was held Friday, July 3, in First
    United Methodist Church, Morrilton.
    Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery by
    Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. The
    Rev. Allan E. Hilliard officiated.
    A retired member of the North
    Arkansas Conference, Rev. Lewis
    entered the converence on trial in 1922. In
    1924, he was received into full
    connection. He was ordained a deacon
    the same year and received ordination as
    an elder in 1927. He retired in 1961.
    He was a graduate of Hendrix College,
    Conway, and Perkins School of Theology,
    SMU. He was a former superintendent of
    the Conway District. He served churches
    at Russellville, Morrilton, Batesville,
    Forrest City, Springdale, Harrison,
    Stuttgart and North Little Rock. He was
    a veteran of World War I.
    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen
    Lewis; a son, Dr. H. M. Lewis Jr. of
    Clarksville; a daughter, Ms. Betty Lewis
    of Little Rock; a sister, Mrs. Opal Price of
    Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren and
    a great-grandchild.

    Reverend Horace Monroe Lewis died July 2, 1981 at
    Morrilton, Arkansas where he had made his home since
    retiring in 1961. Funeral service was held in the First United
    Methodist Church with the minister, Reverend Allan Hilliard
    officiating, and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Morrilton
    on July 3, 1981.
    Reverend Lewis was born at Mt. Vernon, Arkansas on
    August 24, 1895. After serving in France during World War I,
    he entered Hendrix College, graduating in 1922 and was
    admitted to the North Arkansas Conference the same year. He
    then attended Perkins School of Theology, SMU, receiving the
    BD degree; he was ordained Deacon in 1924 and Elder in 1927.
    Among the churches he served were Valley Springs, Wilson,
    Morrilton, Russelville, Batesville, Forrest City, Springdale,
    Stuttgart (Grand Avenue), Harrison and Washington Ave., North Little Rock. He served the
    Conway District as Superintendent for three years.
    He was married first to Anna Martin, who died in 1942. They had one daughter. He
    married, second, Helen Moose and to this union were born two children, H. M. Lewis, Jr.
    and Elizabeth H. Lewis, who survived him. Also surviving are five grandchildren and one
    great-grandchild.
