Downs, a retired teacher, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pine Avenue. Downs, 80, of Willow Avenue, died Thursday (July 12, 1990) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was also a professional engineer. A native of Utica, he came to Niagara Falls in 1940 and taught for 10 years at the former Trott Vocational High School. He retired in 1973 as chief engineer for the former Hooker Chemical Co., now Occidental Chemical Corp. He was a Navy lieutenant commander during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and earned his master's degree in engineering from Niagara University. Survivors are his wife, the former Pauline Maule, and a daughter, Barbara, of Upper Montclair, N.J. References
