On the 1850 census, age 2, with parents, Marion Twp., Hocking Co., Oh.[p. 855 fam #213/219] On the 1856 Iowa state census, age 9, in father's home in Polk Co., Ia. [p. 274, fam #26] On the 1860 census he is age 12, with father and step-mother, Jefferson Twp., Polk Co., Ia.[p 95 fam #765/700] After attending "common schools", Western College (now abandoned) and a term at what is now Drake University in Des Moines, Henry taught country schools a total of 142 months. He and his wife met while attending the "normal school" at Jefferson, Ia., we are told. Louisa was the only living child of James Edwards (b. Surrey, Eng., 6 Nov 1819; d. 3 Feb 1896, Angus, Ia.) and his wife Emma S. (b. 6 July 1830, Eng.; d. 27 Sept 1901, Angus, Ia.) Louisa's father was a stonemason and arrived in this country about 1848. He worked for a while on the locks on the Erie Canal. Later he farmed in "Savannah, Illinois, near the Mississippi River, and cleared the farm of heav y timber." After the Civil War, they moved to Angus, Greene Co., Ia. We are told the Edwards' lie in Rippey Cemetery, Greene Co., Ia. After the birth of Henry and Louisa's first child , they went to Lone Pine, Calif., where brothers Israel and John were. Henry farmed or ranched and taught school. He also worked some months for a mining company which operated a gold quarts (quartz?) crusher and mine in the Panamint Mts. We find them here on the 1880 census. Henry, now 32, gives his occupation as "laborer". With him is Louisa, 27, William H., 6 ; Emma I., 4; and John A., 3. Emma and John both born in California. They live next door to brothers Israel and John.[p 503 fam #148/188] In father's estate, 1880, they are listed as being of Five Point, Calif. We are told that after about ten years in California, the family moved back to Rippey, Ia. We find in records of Rippey Cemetery, Rippey, Ia., that they buried twins, Perry and Percy, there in Lot 45, Block 2, in 1886.[RGrCem, p 8] We find them in Emmetsburg, Palo Alto Co., Ia., in 1900. Henry, farmer, is 51 and Louise is 46. With them are Lily, 19; Harry, 16; and Joe Ross, 12.[ED 151, p 12A, fam #22/22] They continued moving about, renting farms in Iowa until 1902, when they moved to a farm near Glenwood, Pope Co. Minn . They lived here until retirement in 1917, when they moved into the city of Glenwood. Here we see them on the 1920 census. Henry is 70 and Louisa is 66.[p 2B, ED136, fam #35/37] Henry died 8 Mar 1933 in Glenwood, Minn.
