Henry Conley was awarded a degree in Psychlogy from a New York School of Medicine in 1902. He and his sister Lena owned and operated a pharmacy in Boone, Iowa. In his later years, he became an insomniac and gave up his practice. He used his money to play the stock market and became very wealthy. He was listed as being 30 years old in the1895 Iowa State Census. He was living in the Third Ward in Boone, Iowa. Pat Chatham remembers him walking down the streets of Boone in the middle of the night. He had reneted a large one room apartment over Eckstein's Jewelry Store. Most days, weather permitting, he sat on a large brass rail in front of the store. He wore a straw Panama hat and sported a luxuriant moustache. Every two weeks, the two sisters and Pat Chatham, would clean his apartment. She remembers the floor was unfinished wood with a big "Murphy Bed" built into the wall. A huge wooden table dominated the room, which was usually covered with newspapers and business papers. Each Sunday, Henry would come for dinner at his sisters' home and then join them in listening to Father Coughlin on the radio. Since Bud was an agnostic, and his sisters were devout Catholics, the arguments became very heated. Upon his death, the sisters and his brother, as well as Pat Chatham, inherited a substantial sum of money that made college a reality for Pat, and allowed the sisters to remodel their home.
