  2. 2.0 2.1 There is some ambiguity about whether the 11 or the 8 in the date is supposed to represent the month. Surrounding records are written with the month in the middle, making 8 the month, i.e., October for old-style dates. Source:Savage, James. Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Vol. 1, p. 109, assigns 11 Oct 1651, adding "but ano. reading of the Arabic numerals in the official transcr. of rec. prob. erron. makes it 8 Jan. 1652, as inGeneal. Reg. XII. 110". This appears to be from the copy of the original that would have been submitted to Boston. Source:Bates, Samuel. Records of the Town of Braintree, 1640 to 1793, p. 633, adds a period after "mo" which doesn't seem to be in the original, but based on which, the interpretation could change to agree with the Boston copy. However, without which, it appears the actual periods are grouping the 8th and month together, making the middle number be the month, consistent with the surrounding records, and suggesting Savage is correct in preferring this interpretation. Secondary sources show various interpretations (e.g., Source:Eliot, William H. Genealogy of the Eliot Family gives "Jan. 8, 1651", presumably meaning 1651/52; Source:Pope, Charles Henry. Pioneers of Massachusetts (1620-1650) gives "11 (8) 1651", presumably meaning 11 Oct 1651; and Source:Keen, Dorothy Ericsson. Chandler Ancestry of Kate (Chandler) Rhodes bravely says "b 11 Oct 1651 or 8 Jan 1652").

A brother John is b. 27 Apr 1650, and a sister is b. 25 Dec 1653 (maybe, though this date may be an error?), the mid-point being about Feb 1651/52. Hannah married in 1670. None of these events makes a strong statement about choosing one or the other date for Hannah.
