Usage Tips

This publication was an attempt to update Savage's 1860 Genealogical Dictionary, but focused solely on Massachusetts. It covers people who arrived during the period from 1620 to 1650, through the end of their lifetime-- often to about 1720. Names included are drawn from all that had been found (by 1900) in journals, lists, towns, churches, passenger lists as well as from selected documents (e.g., abstracts of wills) published in the early NEHG Register.

  • Google Books has a browsable and searchable (but not downloadable) version of most of the 2007 reprint.
  • Internet Archives has a downloadable version of the original (1900) book in several formats, including PDF, Flip book and plain text.
