    "[1557] Francis Eliot was son of Bennett & Lettice (Agar) Eliot of Widford Co. Herts & Nazing, Co. Essex, England, baptized Apr. 10, 1615 at Nazing, Co. Essex, England was brother of the famous Rev. John Eliot of Roxbury and of Philip of Roxbury and Jacob of Boston. When he came over is not known, but it was probably shortly before Jan. 29, 1637 (8) when he received a land grant 'a great lot' for four heads in his family at Braintree. … He was ordained deacon of the church Oct. 12, 1653 (Rev. John Hancock's Century Sermons, 1739, p. 21). About 1650 he became schoolmaster to the Indians under his brother Rev. John Eliot. He was made a freeman Jun. 2, 1641.

Son Stephen Willis £6 paid by my wife in a convenient time which was for 6 acres formerly granted to my son Willis, the whole was 20 acres he assured of only the 4 acres. To daughter Abigail Eliot £40 at marriage, at her mother's pleasure. Rest to wife Mary and she to dispose of it at death to my surviving daughters or my grand children, and she executor. Capt. Richard Brackett, brother Robert Parmenter, and Edmund Quincv overseers. Reg. XII. 110; Mary, again, 25 Oct. 1653; and Abigail, 12 Jan. 1659. He was made deac. 12 Oct. 1653, and d. 1677. In his will of 30 Oct. of that yr. he names w. Mary, ds. Abigail, Mary, Rachel, and Hannah. Mary m. Apr. 1662, Caleb Hobart, and d. early; Rachel m. 1662, John Poulter of Cambridge, and next, deac.
