A VISIT TO WILLOW BRANCH AND CHAPEL RIDGE

We next visited at the pleasant and beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Yoakum. This pleasant home is situated just south of the Sangamon river, eight miles west of Monticello and six miles northeast of Cerro Gordo. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson have a large two story mansion, which is a perfect paradise and country home. surrounded with all the comforts of life. Mr. Yoakum owns 800 acres of land, well improved, with excellent stock raising facilities. Mr. Yoakum was one of the early settlers and dealt largely in cattle and he still keeps a good supply of fine stock around him. Mrs. Yoakum, whose maiden name was Emma Blain, is an old friend of the writer, and with her parents formerly lived at Illiopis, and from there moved to Decatur where Mr. Yoakum met her and they were united in marriage May 29, 1878, at the residence of Judge Nelson. After an extensive bridal tour through the east they returned to their home in Willow Branch, where they have since resided. They have a lovely little boy, William Allerton, aged three years, who is the jolliest boy in the country and the joy of the household.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Yoakum, of Piatt county, who have been in California three months, passed through Decatur yesterday en route to their home, all tired and anxious to reach home. They visited every city and point of interest on the Pacific coast and come home in love more than ever with their farm in Piatt county. While in San Diego, they saw thirteen funerals in one day.
