Elizabeth Abbot Turner was born in 1841 at Heckington in Lincolnshire, daughter of Naomi Turner, formerly Hardstaff, and her husband Edward Turner, a farmer. She was the second of six daughters. In 1850, when she was about nine years old, her mother Naomi died, aged 31.

Elizabeth appears in each census from 1851 to 1871 living with her father and sisters at Heckington. In 1861 she was described as a housekeeper.

On 10th February 1874, aged 32, Elizabeth married a farmer named David Dawson, who was a widower. The witnesses to their marriage were Elizabeth's uncle John Turner and aunt Elizabeth Gray Almond (both siblings of her father Edward). David was about 22 years Elizabeth's senior, being 54 when they married. Elizabeth's older sister Sarah had previously worked as a servant for David.

Elizabeth and David went on to have five children together at Heckington between 1874 and 1883. Elizabeth's father died in 1879.

The 1881 census finds Elizabeth, David, their children and two servants living at Heckington Fen, with David described as being a farmer of 122 acres.

Some time between 1883 and 1890 the family left Heckington and moved to Sewstern in Leicestershire, some 25 miles south-west of Heckington, but adjoining David's native parish of Gunby St Nicholas. David died at Sewstern on 16th October 1890, aged 71. He was buried five days later at Gunby.

Elizabeth survived David by over 44 years. She appears in the 1891 census with four of her five children at Sewstern, living in a house with four rooms. In 1901 she was living with just her son George at Sewstern, and in 1911 she was living there alone.

Elizabeth died on 2nd April 1935 at her daughter Sarah's home at 22 Robertson Road in Grantham. She was 93 years old. She was buried at Gunby.
