Facts and Events
In 1900 Edward was working as a boxcar builder for the Pennsylvania Railroad. His second wife, Jessie McDuffee, was a schoolteacher. After moving to Eel River Township, Jessie and Edward accepted the position of Matron and Superintendent at the Allen County Farm which housed pregnant young girls, the poor, insane and ill. Upon a trip to Dave Taylor's Grass Nursery on McDuffee Rd., Allen Co., IN, Jim Stump mentioned to Dave that one of his Sordelet ancestors married a McDuffee. Mr. Taylor said that he had something really interesting to show Jim and proceeded to remove a small piece of wood paneling from his china cabinet. He stated that his grandfather had a smoke house built a long time ago and when the time came to tear it down, Mr. Taylor found engraving on the back of a piece of the panneling. The engraving said "E.A. Sordelet, Sept. 1905". It appears that grandfather Taylor asked Edward Sordelet (who did construction work) to build the smokehouse for him; the engraving and a photo of the smokehouse are in the possession of James E. Stump, Fort Wayne, IN. References
