!Daniel was a teacher prior to enlisting in Union County, NC at age 23. He was mustered in as a Corporal. He was promoted to Sergeant prior to March 1862. He was elected 1st Lieutenant in Sept 1862. He died on or about 17 Nov 1862 of typhoid fever. His parents' Bible lists his birth & death date, stating he "...sickened and died as a soldier." A letter from Winchester-Frederick Co. Chamber of Commerce dated 16 Nov 1970 indicates no listing of Daniel in the National Cemetery of Mount Hebron.
