!Alex is buried in the Walters Cemetery. He became a Deputy Sheriff of Lancaster Co., SC. In later years he came back to his home place, near Tradesville. He served in the Civil War. A letter he wrote to his wife read: "Kinston, NC Jan 31, 1863 - Dear Wife: I will seat myself to drop you a few lines to let you know I am well, hoping these few lines may find you & the children well. I have no news of importance to write. J.T. is well & hearty. He weighs 167 pounds. I weigh 180 pounds & am fatter than I ever was before. My clothes have all got too small. I will get to come home in about 3 weeks if we have no fight though we are looking for a fight any day. We have got orders to let one man go home for every 25 men present for duty. The men at home now are ordered back by the 10th of February or they are courtmartialed & if found guilty of being absent without leave they are to be shot in front of their regiments. I will not try to run the blockade now for I have got $50 to send home the first chance. You wanted me to send you a fine comb & a steel pen. I will bring you the comb when I come & I will send you a fine pen in this letter. Take good care of it for it's money. J.T. says tell all the girls to hold on till he comes & he will get one of them to be a wife. Tell Nathan Funderburk to write to us. We have written him & got no answer. Tell Mr. Heggler I have written to him twice since he wrote to me. I would like for him to write. We have some good preaching here & 4 men have joined the church & there are several mourners yet. We have baptising here tomorrow & sacrament here in the evening. I have not heard from home since Jonas Carnes came back. I want you to write once every week. I received the socks you sent me & was glad to get them. I have a couple of rings I will send you. When you write back let me know if you get them, one pen & 2 rings. I must close, remaining your loving husband till death. A.T. Walters"
