Personal History

Daniel Kittredg(e), third son of John Kitteridge and Mary Littlefield, was born 22 5mo. [July] 1670, in Billerica, colony of Massachusetts Bay.[1][2] A deacon of the church, he died 8 March 1741/2, in Tewksbury (formerly part of Billerica).[3][4]

Daniel Kittredge and Elizabeth Foster were married 19 December 1694, in Billerica. The town records record the births of their children Mary, Daniel, Elizabeth, Sarah, Hannah, Mehittabel, and Abigail.

In his will dated 28 November 1741,[5] Daniel Kittredg, of the town of Tewksbury, husbandman, “being very weak in body”, bequeathed to Elizabeth, his wife, household goods, one third of his real estate during her lifetime to be maintained by his son Daniel, and the west half of his dwelling house. He bequeathed the use of one fire room to his daughter Hannah Patten so long as she remains Thomas Patten's widow; other real and personal estate to his son Daniel (and ordered him to pay to each of his sisters £50 apiece for the whole of their portions); £20 to his daughter Mary Peacook; £28-12 to his daughter Elizabeth Manning; £27-10 to his daughter Sarah Patten's children (she being deceased); £17-4-10 to his daughter Hannah Patten; £27-5-7 to his daughter Mehetibel Haywood; £18-14-6 to his daughter Abigail Frost; certain military items to his son Daniel and grandsons, Daniel Kittredge (jr.), Daniel Peacook, and Samuel Kittredge. He appointed his cousin Joseph Kittredge as sole executor. The will was proved in Middlesex Co. court 5 April 1742.

The inventory[5] of Daniel's estate included “the Home place with two meadows namely Shaw Shin and Strongwater ajoyning” valued £700, two lots on the east side of Strongwater Brook (originally of Daniel Rogers and John Dunkins) valued £275, and a lot on the east side of Shawshin River (originally of William Patten) valued £86. The sum total of the real and personal estate was £1117-17-6.
