Correspondence with Deena DuFour 4/18/02 I remember him to be a brilliant man, very quiet, and on occasion, he wore mis-matched socks. When I asked him why he had one green sock on, and one yellow sock on, he replied "Well, how 'bout that... My feet are covered though, aren't they?" And then he smiled, patted my head, and returned to whatever it was that he was working on. As a little girl, I thought he had to be the most wonderful person in the world.

...As far as the info you asked for, Grandpa died on August 19, 1988 in his own bed. He pretty much drank himself to death after Grandma Lolly (Henrietta) died two years earlier. He tried to go on without her, but his heart was broken. I recall that he DID have a girlfriend shortly before he died, and proposed marriage to her, but she could not handle his drinking, and broke off the engagement. She hadn't heard from him in days, and whether it was her, or Uncle Dean who found him, I don't know, but there was nothing visibly wrong with him, other than the alcoholism. He was given a 21 gun salute at his funeral...

...You were correct, by the way, my grandpa Dean was a WWII vet. He never did like to talk about it, because he said he had enough fighting as a child, and even though I never gave up on asking him about it, he was just as stubborn as I was, and never said much.... As far as his years in the war, I believe that his son would have any records on that. I will check with him as soon as I can...
