U.S. Army Ret. : Martin, Azariah - entered service 1780 in Amherst County, Virginia, in company of uncle Captain Azariah Martin; moved abt. 1791/2 to Kentucky, where granted Pension age 68 in Clay County in 1834; died 4/14/1834 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky; married 4/1791 to Lucy Rodes, Amherst County, Virginia, at home of her father Charles (Marriage bond 4/20/1791 listed soldier as Azariah Jr.*, signed by Azariah Martin & Azariah Martin Jr., & showed consent of Lucy's father); widow granted Pension age 74 in Madison County, Kentucky, 1840; resided there in 1843; daughter Liberty B, b. 1812, resided there in 1843, one of widow's 6 children; soldier's brother William resided age 74 there in 1840. f-W554, R1637.
