Will of Adam Laughlin of Little Britain Township, Lancaster Co, PA (Will Book B, Vol. 1, p 254.)

"...the Twentyeth Day of September in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Fifty Eight I Adam Laughlin....

First I order that all my Debts & funeral Charges be paid out of my Estate

2dly I bequeath to my beloved Wife Margret Laughlin one Bed & furniture & one Walnut Chest,

Thirdly I order the Remainder of my Estate after all Debts are cleared off to be equally divided among my Wife Margaret Laughlin and my Children Agness Laughlin, Isabell Laughlin, Hugh Laughlin, Mary Laughlin, James Laughlin, Robert and Sarah Laughlin, But I order my three youngest Children James, Robert & Sarah Laughlin to have Three pounds each of them for their parts over & above the parts of my Wife & the Rest of the children

Fourthly I bequeath to my Daughter Janet the Sum of One Shilling sterling

Fifthly I bequeath to my Daughter Katherine One Shilling sterling

6thly I bequeath to my Son John One Shilling sterling

7thly I bequeath to my Son Mathew Laughlin the Sum of three pounds & I order the above three Pounds & three Shillings sterling together with the Debts to be taken out of my Estate & the Remainder is to be divided as above among my Wife & Eight Children as above mentioned

Lastly I appoint my beloved Wife & Thomas Grubb to be Executors of this my last Will and Testament"

Witnesses William McClellan & James Arbuckle appeared at Lancaster Co., on 6 November 1758 to record the will.

   Laughlin History 1807-1907 prepared for the Centennial Reunion held at Lore City, Ohio Thursday, August 22, 1907: by John W. Laughlin, Barnesville OH.:
   
   Four brothers: William, James, Adam and Robert Laughlin emigrated from Northern Ireland to Pennsylvania between 1725-1729, during the second wave of the Scotch-Irish Great Migration. They settled in Lancaster County PA, where Adam left a will prior to his death in 1758. Adam Laughlin, by his first wife Katherine, had 4 children: Janet, Katherine, John and Matthew. By his second wife Margaret, he had 7 children: Agnes, Isabell, Hugh, Mary, James, Robert and Sarah. After Margaret died abt 1770, Hugh with his brothers Robert and James and half brother John moved to Fayette County PA.
   
   John, Hugh, James, and Robert are found in the 1790 Fayette Co, PA census. John Laughlin left a will dated June 11, 1800, in which he names brothers Hugh, James and Robert; also John son of Hugh, John and Adam sons of Matthew, Adam son of James and Adam son of Robert.
