• The Black Family history written by my grandfather Charles (Scottie) Black and transcribed by his great-niece (my second cousin) Cheryl Ahner(living): This is sort of like a family Bible without the bible.
• During the years of 1915 to 1940, Crown Point was a well-known marriage mill. An estimated 175,000 couples flocked to the Lake County Courthouse to be wed, since it became associated as a "quick and painless" marriage site. (from Crown Point Marriage Mill). Both Black and Hyde grandparents were married there.

• Great[3]-grandparents Robert Black and Martha Ross were protestant Irish farmers who died around the time of the Great Irish Potato Famine. While it's not known if they were victims of the famine, it is known that their orphan son Matthew emigrated from Ireland to Glasgow, Scotland.

• Charlotte Becker, daughter of Henry and Charlotte Becker, and sister of John Becker had her life overturned when her brother-in-law Adolph Luetgert became known as The Sausage King Murderer. The murder and subsequent trial were famous across the country and was tracked daily in the New York Times. Her husband Arnold Luetgert, first ruined financially in the Panic of 1886, then further humiliated by his brother's infamy committed suicide in grisly public fashion.
