HEINRICH ARNOLD LUETGERT was born in 1851 at Prussia. He married CHARLOTTE BECKER, daughter of HENRY BECKER and CHARLOTTE [BECKER], on 9 Mar 1879. He and CHARLOTTE BECKER appeared on the census of 1880 at Hanover Township, Cook County, Illinois. They raised a family of eight. He farmed in Hanover Township, Cook County, in 1880. At times, Arnold worked as a butcher and he taught school. Around 1893 he moved to Chicago.

The Panic of 1896 caused great financial difficulty for him. The following year proved to be even worse as his brother Adolph was convicted in the murder of his wife, causing a national sensation and becoming known as The Sausage King MurdererS2.

The stresses of his life became too much for him and on 16 Oct 1908 at the age of 57, Arnold committed suicide in grisly public fashion.
