John Price Sr. father of John Price Jr., is found residing along Hawksbill Creek in what was Augusta County Virginia at the estimated time of his sons's birth. Revolutionary War pension applications of Thomas Price born 22 April 1750 and Sampson Price born in 1861, brothers of John Price Jr. provide further information regarding the family residences.

In 1780, John Price Sr. wrote his will leaving property, 290 acres along the Shenandoah River, to be divided between his three oldest sons. They were Edward Price, John Price Jr. and Thomas Price. The younger sons Sampson and Zachariah were not old enough to inherit land. When brother Edward died about 1787, he willed his share of the 290 acres to his younger brother Zachariah to care for his mother Sarah. By the year 1796, Sarah wife of John Price Sr. had apparently died as had Zachariah. A Shenandoah County deed book K page 425 names John Price Jr. and his surviving brothers and sisters. This document also declares the surviving children to be brothers and sisters and devisees of Edward Price deceased who was one of the sons and devisees of John Price deceased. The land is described as part of 290 acres granted by deed from Lawrence Garr to John Price deceased.
