Five distinct lines of Hays/Hayes are identified as immigrating to Old Chester between 1683 and roughly 1733. The Cheshire, Pembrokshire, and Frederick County lines appear more or less simultaneous in 1683, as part of the first wave of Quaker immigration. The Oxfordshire Hays line appeared about 1705 slightly further west. They also were Quakers. The Derry-Hays Creek line appeared in what is now Derry Township, Dauphin County, in 1733. The Frederick County line is said to have moved down New Castle in the early 1700's, and thence in the succeeding generation westward into Frederick County (Old Monacy).
