Overview

This line of Hays came to Pennsylvania from Cheshire England. The first of the line in America was Person:Jonathan Hayes (1), who was among the Quaker settlers who came on the "Endeavor of London" in 1683, passing up the Delaware, to eventually settle in Marple Township, Chester County, PA. Patriarch Jonathan came to own substantial property in the area, became a Justice, and served in the Assembly, before his murder in 1715. As far as is known, he left only a single son, Jonathan (10), who came to America as a newborn on the Endeavor. He lived and died in Marple Township, and had at least four known sons. Only son Jonathan is known to have married and left progeny. Jonathan moved first to the New Castle area, but later moved on to Frederick County Maryland.
