ld. that he prob. slighted, as he was of Hartford 1639, or earlier, had
large fam. was a waver, and rem. a. 1659, to Northampton, where he
was one of the seven pillars for foundat. of the ch. 1661, and d. at gr.
age, 17 July 1694, in his will naming progeny, Joseph, Thomas, John
(wh. was b. 10 June 1646, and had d. but left d. Thankful), Jonathan,
Jacob, Hezekiah (who was d. by left childr.), and Sarah, w. of Samuel
Kellogg of Hatfield

Abigail, eldest d. of Alexander Alvord, had Thomas, b. 1667; Abigail,
1669; Samuel, 1673; and Hezekiah. 1676, wh. d. young; and aft.
1700, rem. prob. to Coventry. THOMAS, Westfield, s. of John the first,
m. 1670 Mary Gridley, prob. d. of the first Thomas, had Thomas, b. 1
Sept. 1671, d. at 18 yrs.; and Mary 21 Oct. 1673. Soon after his w.
d.
in that yr. m. 7 Oct. 1675, Mary Spencer, had John, b. 25 Dec. 1676;
Samuel, 16 Feb. 1679; Elizabeth 16 Feb. 1681; Sarah, 27 July 1683;
Timothy, 3 Dec. 1685; Joseph, 16 June 1688; and his sec. w. d. 4
Nov. 1690. Early in 1693 he m. third w. Sarah, wid. of Josiah Leonard,
had Thankful and Mary, tw. 12 Nov. 1693, and this w. d. 3 Jan.
foll. and he d. 16 Aug. 1709. Not a few errors are seen in the acco.
of his ms. and childr. in Geneal. Reg. VI. 267. THOMAS, Boston, mariner,
m. Elizabeth d. of Ambrose Gale of Marblehead, had Mary; and in his
will 18 Sept. 1683, pro. 31 Jan. foll. in wh. he says he is bd. on voyage
to Jamaica, names only that w. ch. and f.-in-law. This name oft. is
spell. Rootes.

    ROOTEN or ROWTON, RICHARD, Lynn, emb. at London, in the
Susan and Ellen, Apr. 1635, aged 36, with w. Ann of the same age, and
ch. Edmund, 6 mos. No more is kn. of any of the fam. but that one
rec. tells that he d. 20 Sept. 1663, ano. that the will of 12 June preced.
pro. in Nov. names no ch. but does the w. and kinsman, Edmund, wh.
d. 8 Apr. 1675. He had modera. est.

    ROPER, BENJAMIN, a soldier in Philip's war, whose resid. perhaps was
Dedham, k. by the Ind. 18 Sept. 1675, with the flower of Essex, under
Capt. Lothrop. He may have been s. or gr.s. of Walter; though in
Farmer he is made tw. br. of Ephraim. EPHRAIM, s. of John of Dedham,
serv. as a soldier under Capt. Turner in Philip's war, was in the
Falls fight
. His first w. was k. by the Ind. and he m. 20 Nov. 1677,
Hannah, prob. the wid. of Stephen[1] Goble, had Ruth, b. 7 Mar. 1681;
and Elizabeth 17 Mar. 1683. He with w. and one d. was k. by the Ind.
1697. JOHN, Dedham 1639, when his w. and d. Mary, join, with the
