Thomas Root lived in Northampton until his wife died. He was next heard of in Lynn, Massachusetts where "Thomas Roote, late of Boston" married the widow Mary Cox, daughter of Philip and Alice Kirtland. She mentioned her daughters, Mary Jepson and Hannah Elliot, and grandson, Nathaniel Sherman in her will dated 20 Jan 1717. The will was witnessed by Sarah Larabe, wife of John and mother of John and Joseph, later of Coventry. Thomas Roote died by 4 Jan 1730, when his son quitclaimed to Nathaniel Sherman of Lynn, all right and title to real estate accruing to the said Sherman.

He lived in Northampton till after the death of his wife, when he disappeared from that place, and seems to have removed to Boston, and thence to Lynn, Massachusetts, where it is recorded that Thomas Roote, late of Boston, married Mary Cox. She was a widow, her maiden name being Kirtland, daughter of Philip Kirtland. He is spoken of as a husbandman there. Thomas Roote Jr., of Coventry, executed a quit-claim of all debts due him by Nathaniel Sherman, undoubtedly her grandson.
